What is Opichy?
The open physical intelligence ecosystem, and why it is not another home-automation hub.
Opichy (pronounced o-pie-chee) is an open, malleable digital-to-physical automation ecosystem. Hardware provides capabilities; software and AI compose those capabilities into outcomes.
The important distinction
Opichy is not another home-automation platform. It is an automation substrate:
Hardware defines what is physically possible.
Opichy defines how those capabilities can be composed.
AI defines how to achieve the desired outcome.
Ask for an outcome such as "keep the greenhouse healthy". Opichy discovers what is physically present — a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a light sensor, a water valve, a fan, a grow light — and the intelligence layer reasons over those capabilities to create the automation. No manufacturer-specific automation system is required.
The layers
| Layer | What lives there |
|---|---|
| Physical | Raspberry Pi / embedded controllers, Matter devices, sensors, actuators, motors, cameras, industrial I/O |
| Opichy Edge | Local intelligence, device discovery, hardware abstraction, automation execution, local-first operation |
| Cloudflare | Workers, Durable Objects, APIs, identity, event processing, device state, remote access |
| Intelligence | AI decides what should happen; software is generated or adapted as needed |
Adding a new physical capability expands what the intelligence layer can do — without replacing the physical infrastructure.
